a physical-musical-drama
Featuring the American Theater songs of Kurt Weill Written by
Michael Oakes and Jennifer Wells
Choreography by Fay Simpson
Original music by Earl Wentz
Time: 1957
Place: NYC Recording Studio Characters: Lotte Lenya, 59, chanteuse
extraordinaire (whose throaty voice was described as "one
octave below laryngitis"), and muse and wife of Kurt Weill,
(the ghost of), acknowledged genius of 20th century music for
the stage (Three-Penny Opera - Lady in the Dark Street Scene
- Lost in the Stars). Her record album Producer.
Historically accurate but interpreted artistically, as it tells
the story of
Lotte Lenya and her creative and passionate relationship with
Kurt Weill.
From marriage to divorce to remarriage, theirs was an often-dissonant
union
of two geniuses. Fraught with deception, guilt and guile,
music ultimately
confirmed their love. |
